The Pedro

Pedro means strong and dependable. It is a belt made in that plain spirit, one honest layer of leather, steady, broad and certain, asking for nothing and giving years.

The Pedro is crafted from a single solid layer of Spanish Full Grain Vegetable Tanned Milled leather, drawn from the tanneries of Spain. One layer, no lining, no second material, the grain facing the world and the flesh side worn against the body, exactly as the leather left the hide. At 40mm, it is broad and steady, a belt with no pretence and nothing to prove, made simply to be relied upon.

The buckle is held by strong hand-sewn anchor points at each end, the only stitching the belt carries and the only stitching it needs. This is not a purchase. It is a decision made once, for a lifetime.

It Begins in Spain

It begins in Spain, in a tradition of vegetable tanning that is among the oldest and most respected in Europe. The hides are tanned slowly with natural tannins rather than driven through quickly with chemicals, the patient method that gives the leather its strength, its depth and its capacity to age rather than simply wear. It is a leather made the way leather was made before the industry learned to hurry.

Milled, and Full of Character

The leather is milled, tumbled slowly in large drums until the fibres relax and the surface takes on a soft, rounded, characterful hand. It yields a little when you hold it. It carries light differently along its length. Over years of wear it develops a patina that is layered and personal, the visible record of a life lived alongside it. This is leather with warmth and movement, not a flat, uniform surface but a living one.

A Single Honest Layer

There is no lining here, and that is the point. The Pedro is one solid layer of milled leather, finished on both faces, the flesh side worn against the body as it was always meant to be. It is the most honest construction a belt can have, nothing concealed, nothing padded, nothing added for the sake of appearance. What you see is the whole of what it is.

Held by Hand

The Pedro carries no stitching along its length; its strength is in the leather itself. The buckle is fastened with strong hand-sewn points at each end, worked by hand to hold firm through years of daily wear. The buckle is broad and squared to the belt's 40mm width, in a silver finish, with the James Aston name on the bar. It is a belt built for use, and built to last.

Strong and Dependable

Pedro means strong and dependable, and the belt is made in exactly that spirit. There is nothing showy about it, and that is its quality. Broad, plain and grounded, it is the belt a man reaches for without thinking, worn with denim or chinos, present for every ordinary day and equal to all of them. It belongs to the man who values what simply works, year after year.

The James Aston Lifetime Warranty

We stand behind the making of every Pedro for the whole of its life. Should the buckle, the keeper, the fastening or the leather ever fail, we repair or restore it. The leather is vegetable tanned and is meant to age. It will deepen and soften into a patina that belongs to you alone. That is not wear. That is the point.

Keep your belt clean and well conditioned. Wipe it gently with a soft dry cloth to lift dust, and from time to time work in a little neutral leather conditioner to feed the leather and protect its surface. Keep it dry, store it with room to breathe, and away from prolonged damp and direct heat. Cared for in this way, the vegetable tanned leather deepens into a patina that becomes, over the years, unmistakably your own.
