The Viviana is a dress belt made in Italian full grain Vachetta, the natural vegetable tanned leather of the Tuscan Leather District, lined in Italian vegetable tanned nubuck in natural honey and finished at 25mm, a width with a little more presence, equally at ease on a dress or on a pair of trousers.
Viviana means alive, and the name is chosen for the leather rather than for effect. Vachetta is kept close to its natural state, vegetable tanned and left uncoated, so that it goes on living once it is yours. It breathes, it warms, it takes the marks of the days it is worn, and above all it deepens, drawing a patina that no two belts will ever share. The belt you are given is not finished. It is only beginning.
This belt is cut from Vachetta, a natural vegetable tanned leather from Tuscany. It is tanned slowly, with plant extracts in place of chemicals, in a tradition held for generations. Left close to its natural state, it deepens in tone and takes its patina with wear, so the leather becomes a quiet record of the years it is carried. Every Vachetta hide carries the guarantee of the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale, the mark that certifies genuine vegetable tanned leather made in Tuscany.
Because Vachetta is left so close to bare, only a full grain hide of real quality can be used, its surface kept whole rather than sanded away and printed over. There is nowhere for a flaw to hide, and nothing between your hand and the leather. That same surface is what receives the years, softening and gaining depth with wear.
The Viviana is offered in two. Olive is the quieter of the pair, a soft green that flatters almost everything and turns, in certain light, towards bronze. Blue is the calmer, a clear and composed blue with a stillness to it. Each is finished with a gold buckle, warm against both colours, and each is the same belt in a different mood.
The belt is lined in Italian vegetable tanned nubuck in natural honey, softer against the body than a standard leather lining, and finished so the inside is as considered as the face. It is a detail felt more than seen, and known only to the woman who holds the belt in her hands.
At 25mm the Viviana has a little more presence than a slender dress belt and remains unmistakably a dress belt, cut and finished to sit well and to last. The buckle is imported metalware in a gold finish, set to the leather so that colour and metal read as one considered object rather than parts brought together. The edges are finished by hand, and the whole is guaranteed for life.

Why no addition is needed. You are measuring a belt worn with clothing, so that allowance is already in the number. Your James Aston belt arrives with the middle hole at your ordered size, two holes either side.

Keep your belt clean and well conditioned. Wipe it gently with a soft dry cloth to lift dust, and from time to time work in a little neutral leather conditioner to feed the leather and protect its surface. Keep it dry, store it with room to breathe, and away from prolonged damp and direct heat. Cared for in this way, the vegetable tanned leather deepens into a patina that becomes, over the years, unmistakably your own.
