Some mornings, you reach for the same belt without thinking. Not because it is the only one you have, but because it is the only one that feels entirely right. The Raffaello was made for that morning.
The Raffaello is crafted in Italian Full Grain Vegetable Tanned Milled leather, drawn from the Tuscan Leather District of Italy, in Oak Brown. The grain side faces the world, the flesh side of the same leather faces the body. No separate lining, no second material, the same Italian Milled leather from the first thread to the last, confident enough in its own character to need nothing else.
At 35mm, it carries presence without effort, composed enough to move from a business meeting to an evening engagement without a single concession. The stainless steel buckle with gold finish, and the solid brass Chicago screw in matching gold, complete a belt of unhurried, considered excellence. This is not a purchase. It is a belt chosen once, and carried for years.
It begins in the Tuscan Leather District, the corridor between Florence and Pisa along the banks of the Arno, where the tradition of vegetable tanning has been practised without interruption since the thirteenth century. Natural tannins are drawn from the bark of chestnut, quebracho and mimosa, and the hides are moved slowly through progressive concentrations of tannin over weeks of patient immersion. No acceleration, no shortcuts, only time and craft working together to produce a leather fundamentally different from anything the industrial process can offer. This is not an industry driven by speed. It is driven by pride.

This belt is cut from Vachetta, a natural vegetable tanned leather from Tuscany. It is tanned slowly, with plant extracts in place of chemicals, in a tradition held for generations. Left close to its natural state, it deepens in tone and takes its patina with wear, so the leather becomes a quiet record of the years it is carried. Every Vachetta hide carries the guarantee of the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale, the mark that certifies genuine vegetable tanned leather made in Tuscany.

The leather for The Raffaello is a different material from the Italian Vegetable Tanned Bridle of The Heritage Collection, and deliberately so. Where Bridle leather is structured and architectural, Milled leather is warm and human. The milling process tumbles the vegetable tanned hide in large drums until the fibres relax and the surface acquires a softness and roundness that no other finishing method can replicate.
It yields slightly when you hold it. It carries light differently at different angles. Over years of wear it develops a patina that is layered, personal and irreversibly its own, the visible record of a life lived alongside it.
The colourway is Oak Brown, a warm, grounded brown that sits in its own territory, not amber, not dark, alive with a tonal depth that reveals itself slowly rather than announcing itself at once. Against the trouser it settles with a weight and warmth that is entirely its own, the natural hand of the flesh side, unhurried and composed. A colour that does not compete with what you wear. It completes it.

What gives The Raffaello its distinction is the confidence of its construction. The grain side of the Italian Milled leather faces outward, carrying all the character and depth of the full grain surface. The flesh side of the same leather faces the body. There is no separate lining, no second material introduced, the same Italian Full Grain Milled leather from the first thread to the last. This is not simplicity. It is the assurance of a maker who knows that a leather of this quality requires nothing added to it.
The stainless steel buckle with gold finish is precisely proportioned for the belt's width and character. The frame carries a slightly tapered inner corner, more refined and suited to the warmer, rounder character of Milled leather. The James Aston name is engraved on the connecting bar, and the solid brass Chicago screw with gold finish, near the keeper, is matched to the buckle finish with exactness. The stitching is tone on tone, running along both edges without interruption, and the billet tip is pointed, finished with the embossed JA mark within its stitched outline.
Raphael's greatest gift was not technique. It was harmony, the ability to bring all the right elements into a composition where nothing is too much and nothing is missing. The Raffaello does the same. It belongs to the man who has stopped choosing between comfort and precision, because he knows a belt of this character offers both.
We stand behind the making of every Raffaello for the whole of its life. Should the stitching, the buckle, the keeper or the construction ever fail, we repair or restore it. The leather is vegetable tanned and is meant to age. It will deepen and soften into a patina that belongs to you alone. That is not wear. That is the point.
