The Mentor is built for the working day, and for the person who carries it without fuss. It is a laptop bag in the proper sense, structured to hold a full day of work in order and to stay composed while doing it.
The leather is Spanish full grain pebbled leather, the strongest and most honest cut of the hide, its pebbled grain chosen to take the marks of use quietly and well. In black, it reads as serious without ever announcing itself. This is not a bag that asks to be noticed. It is a bag that is noticed because it is right.
Everything that fastens or carries has been considered. The shoulder strap runs on imported metalware in a brushed nickel finish, with squares, an adjuster and D-rings that hold their line. The zips are YKK, drawn quietly and well, and the pullers are cut from the same Spanish full grain leather as the handle. Inside, the bag is lined in the James Aston Jacquard, a finish you feel before you see.
The Mentor is made to travel as well as to work. Across the back runs a full width panel with a concealed zip, and behind it an open sleeve sized to pass over the raised handle of a wheeled case. On the move, through a terminal or a station, the bag sits steady on top of your trolley rather than pulling at the shoulder, and lifts away in a moment when you reach the gate. It is the kind of provision you stop noticing because it simply works.
The same panel earns its place on an ordinary morning. Left flat against the back, it becomes a slim outer pocket, the natural home for the things you want to reach without opening the bag. The newspaper folded once. A few papers that matter little but travel with you. The document read on the way in and done with by the desk. Close at hand, out of sight, and never in the way of the work the bag is really carrying.
The interior is arranged for how a working day actually runs. A laptop pocket takes a sixteen inch laptop, a second pocket holds an iPad, and a holder keeps a phone and charger to hand. Three card slots and two pen holders sit where you reach for them.

The full grain leather is best kept away from prolonged damp and direct sun. Wipe it clean with a soft dry cloth, and treat it occasionally with a neutral leather conditioner. With use it softens and takes on a character entirely its own.
